Flowers and Leaves

I have been stymied at the torch lately but I think it's because I live with too many of my flowers.   After four years I am no longer getting the excitement of opening the kiln that I used to get - sort of like when you first start dating or when you first get that new puppy - you lose that awe of the newness.  I love my photos but just seem to see more pretty flowers where I really want to see something exciting and different.

Since I am dealing with myself here I would think that what I want could easily be translated to what I can do or what I should try.  I have slowly been changing things like closing the studio and submitting my work but I think now it's time to take a step back and learn how to make better flowers.  I don't take classes so this might take a lot of trial and error as well as throwing things but I think it's time if I can going to keep going that I change my approach to my flowers.

I did put more things in the store on Sunday and this week will be making little leaves in a lot of colors not just green.  The leaves are simple little things that I have always done to accessorize my flowers but really I am fascinated with leaves even in real life.

This peice was in the Connections Exhibit by lampworker Marcy Lamberson - it's hundres of dark green leaves and deep blue flowers- beautiful piece.  I think it's the finished pieces that are drawing me.

Leaves are so simple and expressive.
